North Algona Wilberforce Welcomes New CAO Clerk-Treasurer
The Township of North Algona Wilberforce is pleased to announce the appointment of Luke Desjardins as the
new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Clerk-Treasurer for the municipality. Mr. Desjardins’ appointment
comes at the conclusion of a rigorous recruitment effort that began in June 2024 after Council announced that it
would be engaging the County of Renfrew’s HR Division to assist its Hiring Committee with the search.
Mr. Desjardins holds a Geography Degree from Carleton University, a GIS Diploma from Algonquin College
and is a Registered Professional Planner (RPP) with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI). Mr.
Desjardins has over 15 years of municipal experience in Renfrew County, having began his municipal career as
a planner with the County of Renfrew’s Development and Property department in 2009 before assuming
leadership roles as the Manager of Planning & Development for the Township of Greater Madawaska in 2015
and the Manager of Planning & Development for the Township of Madawaska Valley in 2022. Mr. Desjardins
has an extensive background in municipal planning, building and by-law enforcement and has worked in other
areas related to municipal governance, strategy, public engagement, finance, management and administration.
In addition, Mr. Desjardins brings a wealth of knowledge and insight into the opportunities and challenges that
rural municipalities face in Renfrew County.
As CAO Clerk-Treasurer, Mr. Desjardins will be responsible for overseeing the municipality’s day-to-day
operations, financial affairs, and ensuring the effective delivery of essential services. Mr. Desjardins will also
serve as a trusted advisor to Council and work closely with elected officials and staff to help shape policy and
drive progress and innovation for the municipality.

our goals and objectives for the municipality,” said Mayor James Brose. The Mayor also went on to say that
“his [Mr. Desjardins’] experience in local government and demonstrated commitment to public service will be
instrumental as we continue to deliver the excellent services that the residents of this municipality deserve.” Mr.
Desjardins expressed that he is “enthusiastic about the opportunity to bring his municipal experience, leadership,
and industry expertise to the Township of North Algona Wilberforce”, and further added that he “looks forward to
working with Council, staff, and the community to advance the priorities of the municipality through strategic,
inclusive and values-based leadership”.
Mr. Desjardins will assume the role of CAO Clerk-Treasurer effective October 21st, 2024.
